OHUG Sponsors Inaugural Jack Rollo Memorial Cup
Saturday 23 October saw rugby teams from Unison’s Central and Hawke’s Bay Regions meet to contest the inaugural Jack Rollo Memorial Cup. Played in glorious Napier sunshine, the Central Region boys won the match 35-5.
Named in remembrance of Unison employee, the late Jack Rollo, the fixture is to be an annual inter-company event.
The match was sponsored by OHUG Power Equipment, which supplied teams with after-match gear, touch judge and player prizes, as well as being on hand to support everyone at the after-match function and barbeque.
During the match, the kids were kept entertained by Unison’s Powerman, who made them balloon swords, flowers and animals. They were also treated to face painting, a sausage sizzle and refreshments.
Players from all three Unison regions were well supported with many relatives and friends turning out on the day, including Jack Rollo’s family - who spoke at the after-match function, presented the trophy and Unison medals to the winning team and said the game was “an honourable and humbling experience”.
Said OHUG General Manager, Steve Rigby, “The Event was well organised and the game was played in a great spirit, as a fitting tribute to Jack Rollo and his family. No doubt the Hawke’s Bay boys will look forward to a re-match next year, for a chance to even up the score”.
